DAILY NUMBERS AND COMMUNITY TESTING

The Grand Traverse County Health Department (GTCHD) reports one new positive case today bringing the total to 38 positive cases, 6 probable cases, 19 recoveries, and 5 deaths in Grand Traverse County residents. There are three Grand Traverse County cases (of the 38) currently in isolation being monitored. Additional statistics are available on the County’s dashboard

 

The new case is a male in his 30s who became symptomatic while traveling out of state. He did not travel during his infectious period and based upon the case investigation the exposure was community-acquired where he traveled. Close contacts have been notified in that state. Contact tracing continued through the weekend on the two positive cases reported in the community update on Friday, June 19 and all close contacts have been notified.

 

Regionally, Munson Healthcare is reporting COVID-19 testing results on its website for each of its hospitals. Numbers listed are by hospital, not county of residence.

 

Michigan has reported 61,230 positive cases and 5,846 deaths of COVID-19. 49,290 have recovered in Michigan.

TRAVERSE AREA DISTRICT LIBRARY - MAIN BRANCH REOPENING JUNE 24

The Main Branch of the library will reopen with face coverings required:

 

  • Monday-Thursday: 10 a.m. - 7 p.m.
  • Friday-Saturday: 10 a.m. - 6 p.m.

 

Curbside service will continue for patrons who prefer the option or for those who cannot/will not wear masks. Details on what library patrons can expect for their visit are available on the TADL website

 

FRONT ST. OPEN ONLY TO PEDESTRIANS STARTING TODAY

In an effort to allow shoppers and diners more space to practice social distancing, the DDA, in cooperation with the City of Traverse City and Downtown business owners, are opening Front Street between Park Street and Union Street to pedestrians only today through Labor Day. To help with vehicle traffic during this closure, State Street – also between Park Street and Union Street – will change from a one-way street to a two-way street.

The Grand Traverse County Health Department (GTCHD) reports 37 positive cases, 6 probable cases, 19 recoveries, and 5 deaths in Grand Traverse County residents. Additional statistics are available on the County’s dashboard

 

Two new positive cases have been reported since Monday’s update (6/15/20) 

  • Female in her 50’s, asymptomatic, no known community exposure, close contacts have been notified
  • Female in her 20’s, case investigation is in progress.  

 

The GTCHD has received most results from the 835 tests performed at the National Guard community testing event May 30 and 31 at Turtle Creek Stadium. The positive results have been included in the daily numbers count and the GTCHD has followed up on all positive cases.

The Grand Traverse County Health Department (GTCHD) continues to report 35 positive cases, 6 probable cases, 18 recoveries, and 5 deaths in Grand Traverse County residents. Additional statistics are available on the County’s dashboard

 

The GTCHD has received 714 results of the 835 tests performed at the National Guard community testing event May 30 and 31 at Turtle Creek Stadium. The positive results have been included in the daily numbers count and the GTCHD has followed up on all positive cases. The overall positivity rate was .7%

GOVERNOR EXPANDS REOPENING  

Starting today, personal services including hair, massages, and nails will reopen statewide. Workplaces are subject to the safeguards outlined in Executive Order 2020-114.

 

NORTHWESTERN MICHIGAN COLLEGE 

Northwestern Michigan College (NMC) entered into Stage 2 of its reopening plan today, offering limited services on campus. NMC also released its plan for the fall semester, which includes face-to-face and online formats with an emphasis on safety and flexibility. General education classes will be offered in three different formats: Hybrid courses with a combination of face-to-face and online instruction, live classes streamed online, and online courses that are offered on-demand. All face-to-face classes will follow the college’s rules for the prevention of the spread of COVID-19.

NEW TESTING SITE IN CHUMS CORNER:
Over the past several weeks Rite Aid has worked to increase access to COVID-19 tests, and with the addition of the northern Michigan sites in Traverse City and Petoskey, Michigan now has access to testing at 15 Rite Aid locations. Testing is now available at the Rite Aid in Chums Corner, Monday – Friday from 10 am – 8 pm, and Saturday and Sunday from 10 am – 5 pm. Tests are available by appointment to individuals 18 and older, with or without symptoms. A doctor's order is not required to get tested, and tests are free of charge to patients. The test is a self administered nasal swab. To schedule an appointment for COVID-19 testing at Rite Aid, visit their website.

JOC TO MEET MONDAYS AND FRIDAYS - NEW SCHEDULE BEGINS WEEK OF JUNE 15TH 
The Joint Operations Center will begin to hold meetings and issue community updates on Mondays and Fridays beginning the week of June 15th. This is a change from the current schedule of Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Should there become a need to meet more frequently in the future, updated schedule information will be provided.

INFORMATION FOR EMPLOYEES WITH QUESTIONS ABOUT RETURNING TO WORK
The Unemployment Insurance Agency (UIA) has developed new guidance on Suitable Work and Refusal of Work for workers and employers. The guidance reminds employers of their obligations to follow workplace safety laws and guidance related to COVID-19, and focuses on policy that expands good-cause related to COVID-19 for employees who refuse offers of work and seek to continue receiving unemployment benefits.

TOOLKITS FOR BUSINESSES
The Grand Traverse County Health Department has released reopening toolkits for Short-Term Rentals and Campgrounds. All reopening toolkits are available on the Health Department website.

Phase 5 allows the reopening of salons, movie theaters, and gyms, subject to safety protocols and procedures designed to minimize the spread of COVID-19. On June 15, personal services including hair, massages, and nails will reopen statewide.  

Under Phase 5, indoor social gatherings and organized events of up to 50 people are permissible. Outdoor social gatherings and organized events are also allowed if people maintain six feet of distance from one another and the gathering consists of no more than 250 people. In addition, outdoor performance and sporting venues will be open with a larger capacity limit of 500. 

Workplaces are subject to the safeguards outlined in Executive Order 2020-114.

DAILY NUMBERS AND COMMUNITY TESTING
The Grand Traverse County Health Department (GTCHD) reports 34 positive cases, 6 probable cases, 18 recoveries, and 5 deaths in Grand Traverse County residents. Additional statistics are available on the County’s dashboard

Two new positive cases have been reported since Monday’s update (6/8/20). 

  • Female in her 60’s, asymptomatic, no known community exposure
  • Female in her 40’s, asymptomatic, no known community exposure

The GTCHD is beginning to receive testing results from the National Guard drive-through community testing held on May 30 and 31 at Turtle Creek Stadium. 835 people, mostly from the Grand Traverse region participated. 27% of the results for tests conducted on Grand Traverse County residents have come back. Of those results, 4 were positive (these are reflected in the  GT County numbers reported), 209 negative, 3 invalid samples (that could not be tested), for a total of 216 returned test results. The results for 10 out of county resident tests also came back and all were negative. In addition, voluntary congregate care facility testing was also conducted, resulting in 1 new case (which is reflected in the 34 total positive cases in GT County residents), 14 were negative, and one was invalid. A total of 19 test results have come back from this testing effort, but more results are expected.
