Leelanau County, Grand Traverse County and Northwestern Regional Airport Commission’s top priority is the safety and security of the public during this health pandemic of the coronavirus/ COVID-19. The safety of our public and our employees remains our focus. We are in contact with public health authorities including the Grand Traverse County Health Department, the Federal Aviation Administration, Department of Homeland Security and the Center for Disease Control (CDC). Over the last 24 hours many changes have been announced. We are taking the following action as directed by State of Michigan and the CDC:
1. Cancel or postpone large gatherings.
2. Implement social distancing measures as feasible, including limiting in-person meetings.
3. Encourage staff to tele-work when feasible, particularly individuals at risk of severe illness.
4. Limit large work-related gatherings (e.g., staff meetings and after-work functions).
5. Discourage employees from eating meals in a large group settings.
Community mitigation strategies are crucial to slowing the transmission of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in our counties. These strategies provide essential protections to individuals at risk of severe illness and to health care and other critical infrastructure workforces. Preventing a sudden, sharp increase in the number of people infected with COVID-19 will help minimize disruptions to daily life.
These recommended strategies by the State of Michigan and the CDC apply at the individual, organizational, and community levels. They apply to businesses, workplaces, schools, community organizations, health care institutions, and individuals of all ages, backgrounds, and health profiles. Everyone has a measure of responsibility to help limit the spread of this disease.
We are postponing this study session for 60 days. We will provide notice to the public once a new date has been set.
